Materials Handling and Safety Data Information
Materials
Products manufactured by Peer Industries are produced from coated steel coil material which is classified as a non-hazardous material.
Production Processes
Water-based soluble lubricants are used to assist with the roll forming process. Soluble lubricants are not considered hazardous when used as recommended by the manufacturer and are approved by WorkSafe Australia. Materials Handling and Storage
Products are supplied in varied pack and sub-pack quantities and should be handled in accordance with the recommendations contained in AS 1470. Where mechanical lifting or moving equipment is required, trained and licensed operators are to be used. Storage of Metal products should be in accordance with Peer Industries recommendation. Plaster Accessories, clips and ceiling components should be stored in dry areas free from excess dirt, oil and airborne contaminants such as acid and salt sprays. Metal wall framing sections can be stored in open areas which are environmentally-friendly and also away from airborne contaminants such as acid and salt sprays.
Occupational Health and Safety
It is recommendation that protective clothing should be worn when handling metal products ie; AS 2161 – Occupational Protective Gloves. Protective clothing and equipment should be checked regularly for damage. Persons with sensitive skin conditions should seek medical advice before prolonged handling of metal products. Non-fogging goggles (AS/NZS 1336) should be worn when cutting metal sections. Ceiling Tiles – There is no risk to personal injury when generally handling and installing fibrous and plaster based ceiling tiles. Note: Should it be necessary to cut or alter fibrous based materials, it is strongly recommended that protective clothing ie; overalls, safety glasses and dust /respiratory mask is worn when cutting fibrous materials. Hands should be washed before eating and for personal hygiene.
Site Safety Training
It is the responsibility of the contractor to ensure his employees are trained in onsite OH&S procedures as these can vary from site to site.
Product Flammability
Steel components - Non-flammable Ceiling Tiles – Non combustible. All standard extinguishing media is suitable.
Product Usage and Application
Unless otherwise advised, it will be generally considered that persons working with metal wall and ceiling sections and accessories have been trained and instructed in the correct use and application of these products. Peer Industries has available technical literature which provides information relevant to the correct use and application of these products.
